What we collect

Scrap steel and iron collection

Steel and iron is the bulk of what we collect and it is collected free: cast iron baths, shelving, racking, roll cages, bed frames, girders, tools, machinery frames and general heavy metal.

The metal nobody wants to carry

Steel and iron is heavy, which is exactly why a collection service makes sense. A cast iron bath weighs well over 100 kilograms. Nobody wants to get it down a tenement stair to a car, and the council bulky uplift may not take it. We do.

Ferrous metal is magnetic. If a magnet sticks, it is steel or iron and we will collect it, as long as there is enough to justify the trip or it comes with other items.

Where it comes from

Homes: baths, bed frames, bikes, shelving, filing cabinets, gates, tools, exercise equipment. Trade jobs: steel beams and lintels, pipework, boiler casings, radiators. Businesses: roll cages, racking, shopfitting, ventilation ductwork, trailer decking. Two of the photographs on this site show galvanised trailer decking in Garscadden and roll cages in Bearsden, both typical commercial steel jobs.

Questions about this

Is a cast iron bath or radiator worth anything?

Very little as scrap: cast iron is low-value ferrous metal, priced by the tonne rather than the kilo. That is exactly why we collect it free rather than buying it. Restorable column radiators and fireplaces can be worth more to a reclamation buyer than as scrap.

Is one item enough for a collection?

Often, yes, if the van is passing. A single heavy item like a bath or a bed frame is a normal job. Text a photo and your postcode and we will say.

Can you take a cast iron bath from an upstairs bathroom?

Yes. Tell us the floor and the stair layout so we send enough people.
