What we collect
Scrap copper collection
We collect copper in any form: pipe, cylinders, tanks, fittings and stripped wire, from homes, trade jobs and businesses across Glasgow. It is collected free along with your other scrap metal.

Most copper we collect comes from heating and plumbing work: old pipework after a bathroom or kitchen refit, hot water cylinders from a boiler upgrade, header tanks, and the coils inside old immersion heaters. Electricians produce stripped copper cable. Roofers occasionally have copper flashing. Very little of it needs to be pure or clean to be worth collecting.
Small amounts and large amounts
A few lengths of pipe and a cylinder from one job are collected along with the radiators and boiler. A plumber's pile from several months of jobs, or the pipework from a whole tenement close, is a bigger lift; tell us roughly how much there is and we will plan the collection accordingly.
Keeping it separate helps
You do not need to sort or strip anything. If it is easy to keep copper apart from steel and plastic it speeds up the recycling process, but do not go to any trouble and never take risks with cable that may still be live.
Where the copper came from
We record what we collect and from where. For trade quantities we may ask which job the copper came from. This is normal practice and helps keep stolen metal out of the recycling chain.

Questions about this
I only have a couple of pipes. Is that worth a visit?
If you also have radiators, a boiler or other metal, yes, we will take the pipes with it. A handful of pipes on their own is usually better taken to your council recycling centre.
Do you take copper cylinders?
Yes. Drain it if you can and leave it where we can reach it. A little residual water is fine.
